Hacker Bros. Construction Inc.

Hacker Bros. Construction Inc., was started on July 1, 1971 in Kingman, Kansas, by Danny Hacker & his wife Linda and Stanley Hacker & his wife Ellen. Both couples are still married today and each couple has celebrated 54 Years together.

In the early days, their work consisted of soil conservation, terraces, waterways, small dams for cattle water, any small dirt work and tree removal. They then branched out in the early 80’s doing water sheds, heavy highway, and sub dirt work. The 80’s proved to be very tough years for the company, but they persisted.

Hacker Bros. currently does bridge removal, dirt work, wind farms with both BP and Evergy at Flat Ridge 1&2 in Kingman, Harper and Barber Counties.

Stan mentioned they have been blessed to work with great bridge contractors, many of them KCA members. God has blessed them over the years and they are thankful for everyone they have worked with.

James H. Drew Corporation

Incorporated in 1947, in Indianapolis, the company traces its beginnings back to 1931, when James H. Drew established the company. Back then, the primary service was installing and maintaining the overhead electrical systems used by streetcar transit systems.

With the decline of the streetcar, the company branched into other areas. During World War II, the company installed fencing around defense industry plants all across the country.  After the war, the company capitalized on the rural electrification projects financed by the federal government. The company strung lines and set electrical poles throughout Wisconsin, Indiana and Missouri. In 1946, the Sedalia, Missouri office was opened.

The advent of the interstate highway system provided additional opportunities as the company entered the guardrail business. Throughout the 1950s, the company built and installed guardrail and fence on the Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana toll roads. During the 1960s, the James H Drew Corporation grew to be the leader and dominant force in the guardrail and fence business for the development of the federal interstate highway systems throughout the states of Missouri and Indiana.

Also during the 1960s, the James H Drew Corporation expanded its services by adding sign installation, concentrating then on the Indiana and Missouri markets. In the 1970s, our management created a new division within the company to more accurately track the performance of various business segments. Today the James H Drew Corporation manages its business by product lines which include Guardrail/Fence, Lighting and Traffic Technologies, and Structural Steel and Decorative/Ornamental Structures.
